Market Stand

About the Market Stand

The Urban Homesteaders' League Market Stand (Summer/Fall 2010) was an experiential learning space at the Union Square Farmers Market in Somerville, MA where visitors could learn skills for sustainable urban living and creative domesticating. Members of the UHL led skillshares on a wide variety of subjects, and visitors were able to take home free informational broadsides; swap items they'd made or grown at the UHL Swap Table; browse the traveling UHL library; and meet other people interested in urban homesteading. The UHL marketstand was a collaborative project that was conceived and designed by artist and UHL founder Lisa Gross. A version of this project was presented in March 2010 at the Boston Museum of Science.

Documentary filmmaker Jennifer Kelley created a short film about the project. More info and documentation (including .pdf's of the broadsides) can be found on the UHL blog.
