Market Stand
About the Market Stand
The Urban Homesteaders' League Market Stand will be an experiential learning space at the Union Square Farmers Market in Somerville, MA where visitors can learn skills for sustainable urban living and creative domesticating. Members of the UHL will lead skillshares on a wide variety of subjects, and visitors will also be able to take home free informational broadsides; swap items they've made or grown at the UHL Swap Table; browse the traveling UHL library; and meet other people interested in urban homesteading. The UHL marketstand is a collaborative project that was conceived and designed by artist and UHL founder Lisa Gross. A version of this project was presented in March 2010 at the Boston Museum of Science.
There are many ways to participate in and support the project:
- Lead a 15-20 minute skillshare on a topic of your choice, and then chat with visitors in between skillshares about your particular subject. (Contact Lisa Gross at Lisa.Gross@gmail.com if interested.)
- Make or grow something to swap at the UHL Swap Table. If you're swapping something you've made, include the recipe/directions for making it so the recipient can give it a go!
- Visit the stand! Come hang out, learn something new (skillshares will happen on the quarter hour), and meet other people interested in urban homesteading.
- Support the fundraising effort, via our Kickstarter Campaign. Visit the Kickstarter page for more information.
- Follow the project on the UHL blog: http://www.urbanhomesteadersleague.org/blog/
The stand will take place on June 19th, 26th; July 17th, 31st; August 14th, 21st; September 11th, 25th; October 9th, 23rd, 30th. The market runs from 9am-1pm.
